Hello & In the Shadow of Malice by Nancy C. Weeks

Hi Guys! I have finally made the jump from the various homes of Paws & Print to blogging under my own name. With Line Drive’s release just around the corner, it made the most sense to start rebranding all my online homes to be under my own name. After all, I want to make it easy for readers to find me.

So, with the official launch of my new online home, I am SO EXCITED to bring you the new release from Nancy C. Weeks. I absolutely adored the first two titles in her In the Shadow of series. I have to say, even before I picked up In the Shadow of Malice, I had high expectations.

Cover (1)

Adam Blake, ex-CIA operative, has gone to great lengths to keep his identity a secret from his maternal grandfather, who controls the most brutal crime syndicate in Eastern Europe. The moment he lets his guard down, the unthinkable happens and his best friend, the mother of his child, is tortured and murdered. To protect his daughter, he must seek the help of his father’s family—who has no idea of his existence. What Adam could have never foreseen is the unusual attachment between his daughter and her most unlikely protector.

After months of living in an emotional vacuum after her roommate’s murder, Calista Martin takes a chance and befriends a handsome regular at the diner. What is supposed to be just a ride home hurls her headlong into Adam’s world of murder and revenge. To add to an already explosive situation, Adam’s traumatized little girl refuses to release her hold on Calista. Knowing what it’s like to lose a loved one, Calista insists on staying with Adam to protect Anna.

After Calista risks her life to protect Anna, Adam begins to see the waitress from the diner in a different light. But the Vasnev threat is heating up and Calista, while willing to help him, really doesn’t trust him. Can he find a way to eliminate his enemies to become the father Anna deserves and the man Calista needs—or will he fail again, taking his future out of his hands forever?

Sensuality Level: Sensual

 My Thoughts

I am so happy to report that In the Shadow of Malice lived up to the very high expectations I had set. Just like the other In the Shadow titles, Malice is a perfect blend of suspense and romance. Seriously, these books are like begin caught up in your favorite James Bond flick. They are sexy, dangerous and oh, so good. The McNeil family is a set of badass cops and agents. In fact, I’m pretty sure they could save the world.

I don’t want to give it all away, but its safe to say that Blake is just as badass as any McNeil. Weeks has a knack for writing heroes and heroines that truly kick butt, but are still flawed, vulnerable. I love that Calista and Anna have such a deep hold on Blake’s heart. For them, he is willing to risk everything. With them, he is vulnerable. It makes him a layered, complex character. Blake is a real man, the kind real women fall in love with.

Anyone who loves a little mystery, a good thriller and ultra sexy romance needs to read this book.

  1. OH, Erin,
I love the new look and what a fantastic honor to be your first guest. AND—My or my, what a wonderful review of Malice. I’m so very thrilled you enjoyed Adam and Calista’s story. After Greed, Calista kind of haunted me in my dreams. How could I take away her BFF and leave her nothing. LOL! So… I found her Adam, and let me tell you, he was such a fun character to create. Thank you again for hosting me today. HUGS!!
